Meet our Instructors
Our instructors are a group of motivated high school students who are passionate about math. They have either participated in numerous math competitions, excel at school-level math, or both! Here are some brief descriptions so you can familiarize yourself with our instructors and the classes they are teaching.
Instructor Bios
Grace Shao

Classes: 4th grade, 5th grade, Competitive math
Grace is an accomplished mathlete who has excelled in competitions such as Mathcounts, Math is Cool, AMC, AIME, etc. She is an incoming sophomore at Lincoln High School and has been teaching competition math courses for elementary schoolers for three years and has tutored students for four. She was instrumental in organizing the Lincoln Math Competition, helping with both publicity and problem writing.
Iris Lițiu

Classes: 4th grade, 5th grade, Competitive math
Iris is the President of the Lincoln Math Club, creating content for the club for the past 3 years, and has succeeded in competitions such as AMC, AIME, Euclid Math Competition, SMT, etc. She loves breaking down complex concepts using visual elements and enjoys solving mind-bending combinatorics problems. She also helped organize the Lincoln Math Competition and coded the math club websites.
Andrew Shan

Classes: 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade
Andrew Shan is the Vice President of the Lincoln Math Club and has done very well in competitions like Math is Cool, WSMC, AMC, Euclid Math Competition, etc. He's been doing competitive math in a club since elementary school, with many of his old clubmates now here at Lincoln Math Club. Competition math allowed Andrew to really work on problem solving skills, as well as collaboration and communication with his clubmates. Through math, he's developed a greater interest in STEM in and out of school.
Daniel Li

Classes: 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade
Daniel is the Treasurer of Lincoln Math Club and has excelled in competitions like Math is Cool, WSMC, Purple Comet Math Meet, AMC, etc. He is an avid math enjoyer and pursues many math-related activities in his free time. He has also participated in math competitions since elementary school. He is excited to work with students and help elevate their problem-solving skills to the next level.
Miles Caprio

Classes: 4th grade, Competitive math
Miles has been in the Lincoln Math Club for many years and has done very well in competitions like WSMC, SMT, Purple Comet Math Meet, etc., even winning the top prize in the WSMC State Topical round with his teammate Nathan Sebe! He has applied math to coding, one of his main passions, through cool projects like his own chess engine and an artifical neural network simulator.
Aria Xin

Classes: 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade
Aria is interested in math because it explains everything from how many apples Jill ate to how far away we are from stars. Aria took AP Calculus AB this school year and plans on taking AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics next year. Besides calculating, Aria enjoys drawing, playing the violin, playing video games, and can occasionally be spotted playing tennis.
Nathan Sebe

Classes: Competitive math
Nathan Sebe is a dual-enrollment student at Lincoln High School and North Seattle College. He has done very well in competitions like WSMC (topical round winner), AMC, SMT, etc. He interested in math, because he has always enjoyed puzzles, and found difficult problems to be fun to wrangle and eventually solve. Some things he enjoys outside of math are music and running varsity cross country.
Brian Yang

Brian Yang is a rising sophomore at Lincoln High School and the Secretary for the Lincoln Math Club. He has done competition math for over six years, and has earned many honors in various competitions like the AMC, AIME, Euclid Math Competition, WSMC, etc. In his free time, he enjoys sleeping, eating, playing violin, and doing math!
Melina Li

Melina is starting her second year at UW this autumn 2024, graduating from Ingraham High School early (where she participated in their math club) through the Robinson Center for Young Scholars. She likes the problem solving aspect of math and seeing pretty graphs of functions. In her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball and occasionally chess.
Mabel Liu

Mabel Liu is a rising senior at Lincoln High School. She's taken many math courses throughout her years and will be taking Calculus 3 this coming year, and she especially enjoys the elegance of algebra. In her free time, she enjoys wandering by the UW campus, giving her friends yummy soups, and playing video games.
